Comprehensive Interpretation of Eight Series of Aluminium and Aluminium Alloy Material Properties


1. Representation of aluminium alloy grades


International grades use four-digit Arabic numerals, which are commonly expressed as follows:


1XXX means pure aluminum series with more than 99%, such as 1050, 1100.


2XXX means aluminum-copper alloy series, such as 2014.


3XXX means aluminum-manganese alloy series, such as 3003.


4XXX means aluminum-silicon alloy series, such as 4032.


5XXX means aluminum-magnesium alloy series, such as 5052.


6XXX means aluminum-magnesium-silicon alloy series such as 6061, 6063.


7XXX means aluminum-zinc alloy series, such as 7001.


8XXX indicates an alloy system other than the above.


2. Aluminium alloy material properties


The first-series aluminium alloy has good formability and surface treatment, and its corrosion resistance is the best among aluminium alloys. Its strength is low. The higher the purity, the lower the strength. A series of aluminum is relatively soft, mainly used for decorative parts or interior parts.


The second-series aluminium alloy material is characterized by high hardness, but poor corrosion resistance. Among them, the original copper content is the highest, and the 2000 series aluminium alloys represent 2024, 2A16, and 2A02. The copper content of the 2000 series aluminum plates is about 3-5%. 2000 series aluminum rods belong to aviation aluminum materials, which are used as structural materials and are not often used in conventional industries.


The three series aluminum rods are mainly composed of manganese element, mainly 3003, 3105 and 3A21, which is a series with good anti-rust function. Three-series aluminum rods are often used as tanks for liquid products, construction parts, construction tools, various lighting parts, and various pressure vessels and pipes for sheet processing. The three-series aluminum rod has good formability, weldability and corrosion resistance.


The aluminum plate of the fourth series belongs to the series with higher silicon content. The aluminum plate of the fourth series has less solidification shrinkage and is a building material, mechanical parts, forging material, and welding material; the aluminum plate of the fourth series has a low melting point, good corrosion resistance, heat resistance and wear resistance.


The five-series aluminium alloy can also be called aluminum-magnesium alloy. The main features are low density, high tensile strength and high elongation. Under the same area, the weight of aluminum-magnesium alloy is lower than that of other series, and it is also widely used in conventional industries.


The six-series aluminium alloy is a cold-treated aluminum forging product. It is suitable for applications requiring high resistance to corrosion and oxidation. It has good workability, easy coating and good workability.


The seventh-series aluminium alloy also belongs to the aviation series. It is an aluminum-magnesium-zinc-copper alloy, a heat-treatable alloy, and a super-hard aluminium alloy with good wear resistance. At present, it basically relies on imports, and our country's production technology needs to be improved.


The more commonly used eight-series aluminium alloy is 8011, which belongs to other series. Most of it is used as aluminum foil, and it is not commonly used in the production of aluminum rods.
